In a less than shocking move, The CW has decided to put it's long running and pitifully rated teen soap 90210 out of its misery.  I suppose it is kind of shocking, because normally this kind of announcement before didn't come until upfronts.  The fact that The CW has decided to give this five year show a proper sendoff is the right thing to do, even if the show dropped in the ratings recently to an absolutely laughable .2 in the demo and half a million viewers.  Chances are very good it wasn't getting the online ratings this network craves either, and DVR boosts didn't do much either.

Just for a fun little history lesson, 90210, a sequel series of the original Beverly Hills, 90210 that ran on Fox, was the brainchild of now departed CW President Dawn Ostroff.  In her dream to persue the lucrative 18-34 female demographic and turn her network into a zeitgeist (her word, not mine) oriented destination for social network addicted young women, teens, and unbalanced tweens, she launched this show with a huge promotional blitz and tons of media buzz.  Her efforts paid off, for the first episode.  The ratings were a record turnout for this young network desperate for attention.  Once most realized there wasn't a Brenda, Brandon, Dylan or Donna anywhere, the ratings sank pretty hard.  It was on the bubble the last few seasons, but it's move to Monday nights this season only exacerbated the horrible crash.

I personally watched one hour of this show.  I was too stunned to switch the channel, because I couldn't believe anyone would conceivably find this entertaining.  Then again, I said the same thing about Gossip Girl and look how long that lasted.  It goes to show, Dawn Ostroff knew her target market.  Too bad they didn't know her!  For the record, Dawn Ostroff was the same woman that took two top rated shows on her network, male oriented sci-fi shows Smallville and Supernatural, and moved them to the dead zone Friday nights.  As a result, ratings dropped significantly, crushing her overall network ratings stats when shows like 90210 failed to pick up the slack.  That pretty much costed her job.

Ah, but there had to be some people out there that found entertainment value in this show.  After all, it did last five seasons. Please, tell us if you are one of those people and how long you stuck with 90210 before deleting it from your DVR playlist.

Here's the press release and revised final schedule for The CW.

Here's an interesting press release from The CW.  Don't look forward to seeing the latest Cult episode on Tuesday.  It's been relegated to Fridays at 9pm, joining Nikita.  Even during last night's Arrow and Supernatural the Cult logo in the bottom corner showed it airing on Tuesday, so this was obviously a late decision.

"Cult" premieres tonight on The CW and now afterward following each episode you have a chance to see the live recap and discussion online!  You can tune into "Machinima's ETC After Party: The Cult of CULT."  The first guest after tonight's premiere will be series star Matt Davis.

All the details are below in this press release courtesy of Warner Brothers:

Not wanting to wait until February 19th to see the Pilot of Cult on The CW?  Well you don't have to!  You can watch it now on cwtv.com or Hulu, both with limited commerical interruption.

Might I also say how great it is to see both Matthew Davis (The Vampire Diaires) and Alona Tal (Supernatural) on the small screen again.  In case you didn't see, catch my interviews with them and other cast members and producers at Comic Con in July.

This just came through a few minutes ago, but the CW has given its top three series a nice early renewal (and trust me when I say this is early for The CW).  Arrow will return for a second season, The Vampire Diaries will return for its fifth season (can you say 100 episodes!), and the longest running scripted show on The CW, Supernatural, is getting it's ninth season.

As you know, we cover Arrow and The Vampire Diaries here at TV For The Rest of Us, and our sister site The Winchester Family Business is a top source for Supernatural news and discussion, so this renewal makes us very, very happy.  Congratulations Arrow, The Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural fans!  The good times will keep rolling.  Oh and Mark Pedowitz, THANK YOU!!!

We really can't wait for this.  Person of Interest will be back with all new episodes next week starting with episode 2.13, "Dead Reckoning."  CBS released some preview photos for the episode today.  Uh oh, looks like Mr. Reese is meeting up with a familar face.  It's Agent Snow!

Here's the episode synopsis:

Courtesy of The CW, here's some non-descript but pretty to look at photos for the January 17th return of The Vampire Diaries.  Jeremy must really have grown attached to that wife beater!  Here's the official description for those that might be confused by some of these photos:
